A naturally rot-proof wood
Red cedar is undoubtedly the best wood for building Størvatt Nordic baths. Commonly used in construction, particularly in the Alps, roofs are often covered with red cedar tiles, known as tavaillons or ancelles. Constantly exposed to the elements - rain, snow, sun, frost - red cedar requires no maintenance. This makes it perfect for building Nordic baths.
The irresistible fragrance of
our Nordic baths
One of the key characteristics of red cedar, and undoubtedly the one that appeals to all our customers, is its fragrance. Hot water releases all the fragrances of the wood, and red cedar essences are unique and inimitable. Guests of hotels equipped with our products regularly contact us to find out which essential oils and fragrances we use in the baths.
Dimensional stability

You can leave the bath empty for a long time and shrinkage will be minimal. When you refill, the bath will quickly become watertight again and the lid will not deform despite being subjected to very high humidity variations, close to 100% humidity.
Quality
If you take a close look at a Størvatt product, you'll notice the brand's obsession with finish: the solid pieces of wood are assembled to the closest millimetre, the clamping hoops are made from solid stainless steel bars that are shaped and threaded, and the wood is finely sanded for a very soft feel...
The challenge of combining aesthetics with functionality has been successfully overcome!
Resistant materials
Made from aluminium, the patented Størvatt stove has never stopped evolving. Over the years, we have made a number of improvements and reinforcements to eliminate any risk of deformation. The cast aluminium lid is both attractive and robust, and won't warp. A ventilated stainless steel handle ensures risk-free handling.
Maintenance-free materials
Red cedar requires no maintenance. Oil-based treatments, woodstains or other treatments recommended for certain types of wood are only surface treatments and have virtually no effect on the wood's durability. We advise against any application, unless you want to keep the wood looking like new with a special oil, but this will only be a cosmetic treatment. Best left to age naturally, it will take on a beautiful silvery-grey colour.
